Give it a spin: Try Wheels4me before the scheme ends this summer

Wheels4Me London provides accessible loans of non-standard cycles to disabled people in London. As part of a landmark initiative to widen participation in cycling, we’re working with partners to deliver a London‑wide accessible cycle loan scheme. Try the scheme while it’s still running — and experience the benefits for yourself before it ends this summer.

Now is the time to explore the capital on wheels

'I dream of a world in which, one day, disabled people have the same access to the joys of cycling as those riding standard cycles and are not further disadvantaged by exorbitant prices or limited availability', says Katie, a specialist advisor who provides support for people looking for a cycle that meets their needs.

'To have a scheme that would allow people all over the country to access a long-term loan or purchase a mobility device that works for them, subsidised or funded, would benefit not only the individual but the wider communities and opportunities we are then given access to.'

With Wheels 4 Me London coming to an end this summer, now’s the time to give accessible cycling a go.

Wheels4Me London provides accessible loans of non-standard cycles to disabled people in London

We work alongside expert partners at Wheels for Wellbeing and Peddle My Wheels to match our range of cycles to each individual.

Available across the city, Wheels4Me offers an opportunity for disabled Londoners to try cycling through a free loan scheme that goes beyond standard bicycle hire schemes.

The current available fleet includes non-standard cycles and clip-ons, such as tricycles, recumbent bikes and hand cycles.

Wheels4Me is for anyone aged over 18 and over who lives in London and wants to borrow a non-standard cycle.

Currently in England, most of the cycle loan schemes are not accessible to many people with disabilities.

Wheels4Me is a partnership project to enable disabled people in London to participate in a cycle loan to provide them with more freedom and enjoy all the health and wellbeing benefits.

We have 19 cycles which cover a variety of needs and this includes what is possibly the UK’s largest library of clip on hand-cycles to attach to wheelchairs.

Each cycle can be hired out for a one-month period, with both one-to-one training and support and group cycle try out and training sessions to build confidence and skills.
