Perth Walking and Cycling Index

Formerly known as Bike Life, this is the UK's biggest ever study of walking, wheeling and cycling.

Since 2023, the number of 20mph streets in Perth has increased significantly. These measures alongside other projects are making the city safer and more appealing, so that more people can walk, wheel and cycle with confidence.

Every year, walking, wheeling and cycling in Perth results in:

175

serious long-term health conditions prevented

£51 million

in economic benefit for individuals and the region

2,200 tonnes

of greenhouse gas emissions saved

Up to 14,000

cars taken off the road every day

I cycle to get places. I enjoy it, especially going downhill! I don’t enjoy it as much in the rain or in busy traffic, but it is not primarily something I do for pleasure.

I feel good when I don’t use a car or spend money on buses, which are overpriced.

Cycling in Perth would be better if cars did not park in cycle lanes, if we could cycle in Perth High Street and if streets which are one way for cars were two way for bicycles.

We need safe, segregated cycle lanes that join up instead of abruptly stopping.
