Aberdeen Walking and Cycling Index

Formerly known as Bike Life, this is the UK's biggest ever study of walking, wheeling and cycling.

The unique size of the Granite City means that walking, wheeling and cycling are a real alternative for many residents. The Index provides key insights on how to improve active travel opportunities for everyone.

Every year, walking, wheeling and cycling in Aberdeen results in:

605

serious long-term health conditions prevented

£217.9 million

in economic benefit for individuals and the region

9,990 tonnes

of greenhouse gas emissions saved

Up to 57,000

cars taken off the road every day

Our trained volunteers take elderly and less able people out on rides on our pioneering Trishaws to let them enjoy the outdoors. We’ll talk about what they did in their younger days or which part of the city that they lived in. It’s really satisfying and fulfilling to be able to do that.

We can carry up to six passengers in our two trishaws and two wheelchair bikes. We work with about 12 care homes across the city. Very few of the routes that we go on have cycle paths. We need more cycle lanes and to put them in the right places.
