Open sections link from National Route 67 near the market town of Wetherby north-east of Leeds to Thorpe Arch, and then from east of Tadcaster towards York after linking with National Route 65.

Route 665 closure: Wetherby Railway Path, Boston Spa

Construction work on the Wetherby Railway Path, part of Route 665 near Thorp Arch Trading Estate, Boston Spa, will run from early November 2026 to March 2027.

Closures will take place in two phases, starting with a section from Wetherby Road at Walton Gates to Walton Road at HMP Wealstun, followed by a section from Walton Road to Wharfe Bridge.

No signed diversion is provided, but alternative routes are available via Thorp Arch Trading Estate. The car park next to Breedon Concrete will be closed for the duration of the works.

How we're improving Route 665 and the Wetherby Railway Path

This route is part of the West Yorkshire cycle route. Starting from Wetherby at a connection with National Route 67 it is mostly off-road on a traffic-free path as far as the Thorp Arch Trading Estate.

An adjoining section via Newton Kyme is still under development.

The next open section is from east of Tadcaster. It follows the verge of the A64 heading east. At Copmanthorpe it connects with National Route 65 via which you can continue into the historic city of York.

Tadcaster is a beautiful market town surrounded by stunning North Yorkshire countryside. With three historic breweries, including the oldest brewery in Yorkshire, it's the perfect place to stop off for a relaxing afternoon. A market has been held here since 1270 and is found at the junction of Kirkgate and Bridge Street.
