National Route 47 of the National Cycle Network is a mainly inland route starting at Newport and finishing at Fishguard passing through Neath and Carmarthen.

Closure of Route 47 (Swiss Valley) from 1-15 December 2025

Route 47 (Swiss Valley) will be fully closed between Horeb and Cynheidre from Monday 1 December to Monday 15 December 2025 to allow for essential path repairs. A signed diversion will be in place via the B4309, but this route is not paved.

We apologise for the temporary disruption to the route.

Closure of Route 47 at Tumble due to landslide

The Tumble section of Route 47 is closed for the foreseeable future as a result of a major landslide. A road diversion is being put in place and will be signed as soon as possible.

The site has been fenced off and no-one should approach the site. We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

Route 47 runs from Newport to Fishguard and forms part of the Celtic Trail West which runs from Chepstow to Pembrokeshire. From Fishguard the route takes you inland through the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and on to Carmarthen, Llanelli and Swansea. The route then takes you into Newport and onto the famous Transporter Bridge where Route 47 links to Route 4.
