The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust recruitment process

Applying for a role

When you find a role that matches your skills and experience, click the ‘Apply’ link at the bottom of the advert. To apply, you’ll need to register online and create an account with a username and password. Once registered, you can complete and submit your application. You can save your progress, pause, and return later.

You only need to create an account once, but you must log in each time you edit or submit an application. To view or download the job description, scroll to the bottom of the advert. The last page of the document includes the person specification.

To be considered, you must show how your skills and experience match the role. The advert gives a brief overview, while the job description provides full details. In most cases you will be asked 5-6 questions relating to the role and your experience.

What happens to the information you provide in your application

  • After you submit your application and equal opportunities form, your details are processed for shortlisting.
  • Equality and diversity information is kept confidential by our People team and not shared with the recruiting manager.
  • References are only contacted once a written job offer has been made and accepted.
  • For details on how we store and use your data, please see our HR Privacy Notice.

The shortlisting process

Once a vacancy closing date has been reached all applications will be sent on to the shortlisting panel for review.

We will contact you with the outcome of your application after this stage has been completed.

Interviews

  • We aim to give at least one week’s notice. Check the advert, as we often include the interview date there.
  • Your email invite will confirm the time, place, panel members, and anything you need to bring or prepare.

An interview is your chance to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding and experience, as well as to find out more about us and the role.

After interview

All candidates will be informed of the outcome of their interview and we aim to do this as soon as possible.

Candidates who are not successful at interview can request feedback at this stage by emailing jobs@walkwheelcycletrust.org.uk.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Walk Wheel Cycle Trust will apply its Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy consistently and will not discriminate on grounds of age, disability, gender, gender assignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race (including nationality, ethnic or national origin), religion or belief / lack of religion or belief, sexual orientation or contractual status (fixed term / full or part-time).

We aim to ensure that our staff are recruited, managed, trained and promoted on the basis of ability, the requirements of the job and the need to maintain an effective and efficient organisation.

Furthermore, we monitor the composition of our workforce and will introduce positive action if it appears that our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy is not fully effective.

Criminal Record Disclosure Checks

For roles involving contact with children, young people, or vulnerable adults, Walk Wheel Cycle Trust requires an Enhanced Disclosure Check. This will be carried out through the DBS (England and Wales), Disclosure Scotland (PVG Scheme), or AccessNI (Northern Ireland). Employment offers are conditional on a satisfactory result.

The offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory return from the relevant disclosure body.

Having a criminal record is not necessarily a bar to employment with us.

Pre-employment Health Questionnaire

All new staff must complete a health questionnaire.

The questionnaire is provided by Everwell Occupational Health after an offer of employment is made. Information is kept strictly confidential.

The questionnaire helps us:

  • Understand how your health may be affected by the role.
  • Identify any reasonable adjustments needed.
  • Minimise risks of aggravating existing conditions.
  • Assess whether health could impact your ability to carry out the role.

References

Depending on the role you will be asked for either 2 or 5 years’ worth of references.

If you have any gaps in employment or freelance work you will be asked for one of the following:

  • Bank statements (with redacted personal information)
  • Utility bills
  • Council tax bills
  • Invoices/statements from your accountant, if applicable
  • Tax returns
  • In addition to the above, we require a character reference from a professional email address. The referee should not share your surname and must confirm how long they have known you, as well as verify your activities during the gap.

Referees will only be contacted after formal acceptance of a job offer.

Confidentiality

Your application form will only be seen by staff involved in recruitment and selection.

During shortlisting, personal information is hidden, and equality monitoring details are kept confidential by the People Team. Recruiting managers do not see this information.

Data Protection

All information provided during recruitment is used only to progress your application, for statistical analysis, or to meet legal and regulatory requirements.

It will not be shared with third parties unless required by law or if the role is funded by a partner involved in the interview process.

Your information will be held securely by Walk Wheel Cycle Trust and our data processors, whether in electronic or paper format.
